Here is my #FallWritingFrenzy entry. A “duet” poem inspired by a skeleton in a bathtub! The left column is the child’s voice and the right side column is Mom’s voice.

Waiting

“Momma, blahblahblah”

“Jut a sec, hun, Momma’s almost done.”

First, my feet tapping.

Second, my bum goes numb.

Third, my fingers are frozen.

Then, my brows loose all emotion.

My vision blurs.

The blank screen stares

as the cursor

blinks

blinks

blinks

blinks.

All the while, my mind racing

with one single question -

How long do I keep waiting?

“Momma, is bathtime over yet?”

“Just a sec, hun, blahblahblah.”

First, my feet went numb.

Second, I forgot about my legs.

Third, my fingers stopped tapping.

Then, my jaw went slacking.

My eyes sorta glazed.

Hair strands flew away

one

strand

at

a

time.

All the while, my mind racing

with one single question -

How long do I keep waiting?
